Idaho Punishes Vigilante
A man named Ryan Hamilton arrested individuals who had outstanding warrants and brought them to jail. Now the police are arresting him for doing their job. The latest action the man undertook was taking a woman to jail who had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.
According to a Wednesday night release, Boise Police received a call from a woman on June 25 reporting she had been forced to go to the Ada County jail by a man claiming to be a law enforcement officer.
The woman had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. She told officers the man came to her west Boise home on June 24, wearing a gun and kevlar vest, and identified himself as a member of the “Boise Sheriff’s.”
Officials say Hamilton may have “arrested” others prior to the June 24th incident. The man is neither a police officer nor a bounty hunter, police said.
The man looked through warrants posted for the public on the Ada County Sheriff’s Office web site.
The original article is here, one of the comments reads “I guess they figured it out he wasn’t a real cop when they noticed that he was actually out clearing criminals off the street.”

I guess if he was impersonating an officer, that was illegal… citizen’s arrests might have been a better idea. Still…

Perhaps he should just inform the police of the whereabouts of those who have outstanding warrants for their arrest. It sort of sounds like vigilante law the way he went about it. Interesting hobby for someone to have, and it sounds like he was well equipped for his pursuits since he came armed and with a bullet-proof vest. Thanks for sharing this story.
